John Farrington was born in the Bahamas and now lives in Asheville, North Carolina and has a wealth of international tennis experience. He is PTR certified as Professional coupled with being selected by the ATP Board as an ATP Coach Member for the past 15 years. There are only 150 ATP coaches chosen worldwide to represent this prestigious organization with the likes of Stefan Edberg, Paul Annacone, Boris Becker to name a few.


On and off for the past 20 years John has had the good fortune of coaching on the ATP and WTA Tour at the highest level getting several doubles teams to #1 in the world. Most recently it was the Mess Doubles team of Oliver Marach and Mate Pavic. Starting together in August 2017 at #12 and after winning the Stockholm, Sweden tittle John coached Marach/Pavic to the alternate position of the Nitto ATP Finals in London and a ranking of #9. The trio kick-started 2018 with 3 consecutive doubles titles in Doha, Auckland and the Australian Open. Pavic also won the Mixed Doubles at the Australian Open. In 2018 Marach/Pavic achieved #1 ranking, won a title in Geneva and reached the finals of the French Open and have qualified for Nitto ATP Championships. 


Summer of 2017: John worked with Jean Julien Rojer and Horia Tecău.


For 4 years John coached Mark Knowles and Daniel Nestor in singles and doubles, during which time they attained #1 in world rankings in Men’s Doubles. Along the way they got into the top #100 for singles and together they won the Australian Open, French Open, and US Open and finals of Wimbledon plus winning the year-end Championships. Knowles/Nestor also won 5 ATP Masters Titles and won 11 ATP Regular Tour titles during this time. John also coached Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjic for 3 years, to reach the #1 ranking in Doubles including Wimbledon and French Open champions and were finalists at the Australian Open. Nestor/Zimonjic won 21 ATP titles in this time-frame. August 2013: John coached Leander Paes and Daniel Nestor to be the oldest doubles team to win an ATP title in Winston-Salem, NC.


On the WTA Tour John coached Sania Mirza from India for several years through her meteoric rise from #400 to her highest ranking #30 in Singles. John also coached the Russian duo of Alla Kudryavsteva and Anastasia Rodionova who started at #20 and reached their career highest #8 ranking in the world in Doubles on the WTA Tour, finishing 2014 at the WTA Finals in Singapore in the Semi Finals (top 4 teams).  Kudryavsteva's Singles ranking went from #115 to #97. Rodionova's Singles ranking went from #220 to #162 before they parted ways in November 2014.


In August 2018 John started coaching Artem Sitak and Divij Sharan. 


John is a leader who brings passion, energy and enthusiasm to the tennis community with high-level managerial and organizational skills. Across 14 years, John was Director of Tennis at The One&Only Ocean Club, Paradise Island. They organized and hosted many celebrity tennis events which Merv Griffin promoted. As General Manager and Tennis Director at a private club in North Carolina, for 2 years John had operating responsibility for 29 tennis courts, clubhouse, restaurant, and pool.


John has proudly represented the Bahamas in Davis Cup competition for 10 years and was honored to be Davis Cup Captain for 12 years. He enjoyed the pleasure of coaching the Bahamas team at the Olympics in Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008.


John’s illustrious tennis career spans 35 years – as a former professional tennis player himself; coaching ATP and WTA Tour players; coaching nationally ranked junior players; USTA League players; and adults and juniors. In the process his managerial skills have focused around team building and customer service.
